Playstation Blog has confirmed that Resistance 2 has officially gone gold. Along with the news they have a lot of new information on the multiplayer beta that began today. The beta is available to anyone who pre-ordered at GameStop or bought a subscription to Qore. Available in the beta is a taste of the co-op campaign and the multiplayer aspect of the game. "The Beta will include competitive maps from three locations in the game. These maps include 60-, 40-, and 20-player maps from Orick, 40- and 20-player maps from Chicago, and the 10-Player map Sub Docks (Bay Area). New modes Skirmish and Core control will be supported, along with Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. The co-op portion of the beta will focused on Orick, and will support randomization of your play-path. Both co-op and competitive will support matchmaking and class/character progression up to level 10. This will allow unlocking of new equipment, upgrades and berserks for character customization." The beta codes for those of you who pre-ordered Resistance 2 at select retailers are going out now. The beta is now live and codes can be redeemed on the Playstation 3. For those of you not in the beta head over to a local GameStop and pre-order Resistance 2 and be sure to ask for the beta certificate. With that certificate you will input the code on the Resistance beta site, and then you will be e-mailed the code.

A moderator from the Resistance 2 beta site, myresistance.net , has stated that the Resistance 2 beta codes should be coming around 11am PST today. "oh yeah, and by Monday .. I mean like 11:oo Pacific Time ... I REALLY doubt we'll hear anything until then. ... . Keep an eye pealed on the In-box and patience on your mind ... all in due time." While this is completely concrete evidence, or moderator trickery we shall soon see, but I would keep my eye on that inbox.

SCEA's Bend Studio has just announced (via the Playstation Blog ) that Resistance 2 coming to PS3 this year, and Resistance Retiribution, coming to PSP this year, will be able to connect via a USB cable to add features to R2. When you connect your PSP to your PS3 with both Resistance games in you will be able to play the "Infected" mode which adds a part of the story. "Infected mode provides an alternate story within our alternate history. While in prison for desertion, Grayson is recruited by Specter Lieutenant David LaSalle (from the R2 storyline) and is infected with a mutated version of the Chimeran virus … a different version of the virus that infects Nathan Hale. While playing in “infected” mode, Grayson wears a Specter uniform and has glowing Chimeran eyes. He gets to use one of the new weapons from R2: the HE .44 Magnum, which fires explosive rounds that can be triggered remotely. He has regenerative health and no longer needs to look for health packs. A few days ago we brought you the story that Amazon had leaked a few details about the Resistance 2 collector's edition. Today we can confirm that there is indeed a collector's edition and we can show you what is inside. As Amazon stated the collector's edition will feature an art book, exclusive weapon skin, a Chimeran action figure, and a DVD packed with goodies. Amazon.com has the news on another collector's edition, this time Resistance 2. The fun pack debuts for $79.99 and contains some interesting goodies. Resistance 2 video game and Bonus DVD with Behind the Scenes video, video commentary by Insomniac Games, and "Twisted History" chronology video. Word has been spreading around the web that the Resistance 2 beta has opened for some privileged people. Check your inbox to see if you were one of the lucky few. As of now it looks as if mostly members of Playstation Underground got in and very few of them at that, but be assured there will be more ways to get into the open portion of the beta in late September.
