PS3 Firmware Update 2.60 Coming Soon

Playstation Blog has broke the news that the Playstation 3 firmware update, version 2.60, will be coming soon. The update will bring a few new updates but is focused on media with a new photo gallery application. The photo gallery allows users to organize photos in groups using various criteria including everything from the camera used to take the photos to face in the photos. Check out the video below for a run-through of the photo gallery. Also in this update is guest access to the Playstation Store, and DivX 3.11 support.

PS3 Firmware 2.50 Out Now

PS3 Firmware Update 2.50 on the Way UPDATE

UPDATE: The newest firmware update for the PS3 will be coming tomorrow (Oct. 15) and will, among the things listed below, bring Flash 9 support to the browser so you can finally watch flash videos. The Playstation Blog has just announced the features that will be included in the Playstation 3 firmware update (2.50). Xbox 360 System Update Available

Now before you get to excited thinking of avatars and 1 vs. 100 calm down, this is just a routine update and contains no new features. Sorry to disappoint, but we figured you would rather hear it from us than turn on your Xbox and donwload the update expecting something only to be disappointed. Here is the official word from Major Nelson: "A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll recieve a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update contains code to ‘ prepare for future growth of the service. ’ There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features . To be clear: This is not the new Xbox experience update. That will come in the Fall."

Next PS3 Update to Contain In-Game XMB, Trophies

The Playstation Blog has the latest on the upcoming firmware update with some interesting additions. Coming in the update is in-game access to the XMB and trophies, with more details coming soon on the latter. The integration of XMB and trophies seems to be Sony emulating the success of Microsoft's achievement system and in-game guide. Hit the jump for the official statement. Here is the official word from the Playstation Blog article : "A new PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (v2.36) will be launching soon, improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles. We’re also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include “XMB” access in-game. The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements. We’ve talked about some of this on the blog previously and know that many of you can’t wait to get your hands on these features....
