Just when we thought it may be on the way out, EA confirms work on three new Need for Speed games for 2009. Speaking to Eurogamer EA confirmed that the NfS franchise will continue in 2009 with Need for Speed: Shift on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and PSP, Need for Speed: Nitro on Nintendo DS and Wii, and finally Need for Speed: World Online for the Asian PC market. "Need for Speed: Shift will be made by Slightly Mad Studios of GT Legends and GTR 2 fame, with help from EA Black Box producer Michael Mann and EA Games Europe bigwig Patrick Soderlund. Shift focuses on simulation racing - not just the realistic movement of cars, but also driver behaviour." Nitro will be developed by EA Montreal and will be an arcade racer with a focus on "vibrant, eye-catching visuals." World Online will be developed by Black Box and has the possibility of launching in the west if it does well in the Asian market. It will let you pick your car and "take on the rest of the world....

We knew a Spore game for the Wii was coming, we just didn't know when. In a press release detailing some of their 2009 line-up Electronic Arts announced Spore Hero for the Nintendo Wii. Also in the release the first real expansion to the PC Spore was detailed, it is entitled Spore Galactic Adventures. "Spore Galactic Adventures adds a tremendous amount of variety and depth to the original “space game” in Spore, allowing players to beam down to planets, play mission-based adventures and even create their own customized adventures for the first time. Each adventure has a unique reward to upgrade a space creature with special accessories – from an Energy Blade and Stunning Charm to a Jump Jet and more. Players can fight their way to victory as a Warrior, dance with new friends as a Bard, and much more." Valve has just announced that the Left 4 Dead update for PC is available now. It fixes numerous issues, you can see the full list after the jump. Ubisoft and Techland have teamed up once again to take us to the wild west. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is set to be a prequel to the original Call of Juarez. The game takes players from "Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico." “Call of Juarez was well received by gamers and critics,” said John Parkes, Marketing Director at Ubisoft EMEA. “We’re confident this new collaboration with Techland will bring an even bigger and better adventure to fans of shooters and the lawless Wild West.” The game will release later this year on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.

There is a whole host of new information about DLC and patches for various games today. Below I have outlined the who, what, and when for your information. Fallout 3 - Patch out today, DLC "Operation Anchorage" out January 27th for 800 MSP or $10. Fable 2 - DLC "Knothole Island" out today. Mirror's Edge - DLC out January 29th for 800 MSP or $10. Capcom has released more media today, a herd (no pun intended) of new screens and a video for the arcade game Flock. Flock will release on the Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and PC.

To compliment the new movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" from 20th Century Fox, Activision has released new details on the game that will launch this May along side the movie. The first teaser for Batman: Arkhan Asylum was not the most interesting trailer but we were able to see the game would be set in a very dark and sinister environment. Finally we get to see some characters that will inhabit the dark halls of Arkhan Asylum. The game looks very impressive so far. Let's hope it can deliver in terms of gameplay. As promised, DLC is on the way for Mirror's Edge in the form of a time trails map pack. The map pack will be available on all three platforms (PC version will be available January 13) at the end of January for $10 or 800 MS Points. Starbreeze Studios has been working on a remake of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay for some time now. They have been through some uncertainties until recently being snapped up by Atari. So how is the project doing? It just so happens the team at Starbreeze Studios have went well beyond the content of Butcher's Bay. In fact, according to reports, the game has been given an entirely new 10+ hours campaign with all new game mechanics. So, you wont only be getting the original game remade in full HD glory but an all new campaign. Check out the new screens below. Normally we don't report on game mods but I think we can make an exception for this one. Black Mesa Source is a remake of the original Half-Life using the Source engine. PSU.com has uncovered a bit of interesting information regarding the beta for Call of Duty: World at War, apparently it will be run on PC and Xbox 360 only. PSU contacted Activision and Treyarch and they said the following: ""We are running the beta only on the Xbox 360 and PC," said the representative. He continued then to point out that most betas on the PS3 are run by first party anyways, and if Treyarch runs their testing on the Xbox 360 and PC they acquire more data on servers and connectivity." So whether this means the PS3 version is already good to go, or that they are behind schedule on it we won't really know. Those of you PS3 owners looking forward to the beta need to find a friend with a PC or 360 quick.

Via a press release , EA has confirmed that DICE's first person parkour game Mirror's Edge will release on PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 11th. The release also mentioned that the PC verison of the game has been delayed and will ship later this winter. Their will be a demo coming for the game as well via the Xbox Marketplace and Playstation Store. "Prior to launch, players worldwide will get an early peek at the game when the demo* becomes available via Xbox LIVE(TM) Marketplace and PLAYSTATION(R) Store. The demo will feature the prologue of the game including the tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode. Starting September 26th, players who pre-order Mirror's Edge at selected retailers will get an exclusive code that unlocks the Time Trial mode in the demo."
