Not very exciting news, but news nonetheless. Bungie has announced that their stand-alone campaign expansion to Halo 3 will no longer be referred to as Halo 3: Recon and will be called Halo 3: ODST.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Halo universe ODST stands for Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.
"This special forces branch of the UNSC military force is called into action for highly specialized, small scale operations."

That is all for now, carry on.

UPDATE: AddictGaming.com scores again, this time with images of new achievements for Halo 3. Study the image closely and you will notice that the list says "79 out of 79 achievements." That is an additional 30 achievements added. No news on how these will be available, but we can be sure that Bungie is not done with halo 3 by a long shot. Head to the link above to see many more images.

AddictGaming.com spotted something very interesting via Bungie at PAX. As you can see in the image the title screen still says Halo 3, but what is this "Mythic?" As AG noticed there are a few differences from the Halo 3 menu now;
  • "There's a Dev System underneath, which could mean a fair few things.
  • The options in the menu are Multiplayer only, no Campaign options.
  • The version of the game is 1.2 (Retail Halo 3 is currently 1.1)"
Very interesting. Could this be a massive multiplayer update for the game or something else? Hopefully more will come as PAX unfolds. Stay tuned to GPU for developments.

Halo 3 managed to beat GTA IV, Portal, Rock Band, Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports for the award. Whether or not you agree with their decision is not the point.

The big news comes from what happened after Edge gave the award. In Bungie's appreciation, they released a new video which shows some features not supported in Halo 3 at this time. What could all this mean? We'll leave you with the video below to make your own speculation. Enjoy!

Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack

Bungie is all set to release the Legendary Map pack for Halo 3. The Legendary pack is the second map pack for the game and will be available on April 15th. Details and images on all three of the upcoming maps, two of which are classic remakes, can be found inside!

Source: Bungie

Ghost Town

"Ghost Town is the fragmented ruins of a small 24th century water purification complex that geographically lies just North and West of the jungle foothills hydroelectric facility from the Sierra 117 mission. The well-protected facility built into a shallow ravine was once home to the Global Water Campaign, where the still somewhat-pure Kilimanjaro meltwater was transported via pipelines from the river and directed to this small outpost where it became further purified, and then transported via GWC trans-African pipelines along the Tsavo Highway for distribution throughout the entire continent."

Avalanche

"Avalanche is a lovingly crafted reimagination of Halo: Combat Evolved classic Sidewinder. It wouldn’t be wholly accurate to call it a “remake,” but elements of Avalanche are certainly culled from Sidewinder – it has the same familiar U-shape, multiple ways from base-to-base, and a whole sandbox full o’ vehicles to play with. But there are many, many changes too.
Avalanche is a large forerunner power station set on the front of a huge glacial shelf on an under construction Halo installation. The structure is pulling its power out of the densely compacted ice that constantly builds up behind the station before it falls into the ocean below."

Blackout

"As its name suggests, Blackout is a remake of the Halo 2 classic Lockout, a cold series of interconnected platforms and walkways. Where Avalanche was retuned, reworked and massaged into something both familiar and unfamiliar, Blackout is a remake in a pretty strict sense of the word.
It’s a UNSC research station set in the Arctic, and I am pretty sure that this is also where all of the R&D on military grade Otter Pop rations took place. Early on I thought it was going to be an oil derrick, but that changed over time. We have some cool racks of glacier core samples, Doppler radar and other pieces of research gear strewn about, which makes for a nice touch – and when you look up to see them make sure you notice the beautiful Aurora Borealis in the sky."

Halo 3 is a Ghost Town

UPDATE: Added a top-down view with weapon placements from Bungie's Weekly Update

No, not in terms of number of players, but in terms of a new map. Today Bungie Studios showed off the first of the new maps from the next pack due out later this spring.
Here is what Bungie had to say about the map:"Ghost Town is the fragmented ruins of a small 24th century water purification complex that geographically lies just North and West of the jungle foothills hydroelectric facility from the Sierra 117 mission.

Bungie also states that the map is great for one flag CTF, one bomb, free-for-all and slayer gametypes. No clues yet as to when to expect the next map pack. Stay tuned for more information.
